All at Once 03:26
Grace, thirty-one She waits by the phone She’s on her own again tonight Waiting on the world to call her name She checks again And all at once the world you know is slipping down the drain and still you wait It’s getting late There in the dark of the alleyway The cruelest faces turned your way Tonight In your bedroom light In a dream you can leave this world behind In a dream you can leave this world behind And the days keep coming And we all adjust In a time when the world seems done and dusted You’ll find what you try is never enough But you know What I’ve got in mind In a dream we can leave this world behind In a dream we can leave this world behind Just let go

Let me set the scene I was on my own Riding late one night On the ferry home Look at you there with the stars you've come to know Shining through the glass of my window Oh Selene You and me Through night and day we're meant to be Look at you there in the dreams and fantasies Don't you know? You don't have to spend the night alone I'd lost my way heading home and found myself down streets I'd never seen before Winding my way round darkened hillsides I caught a glimpse of you above the trees before dead-ending on Gravely—The Masonic cemetery And there I knew You'll never think of me The way I think of you Sometimes it's like these nights will never end Sometimes I just can't find the time to spend Sometimes it's like the world's within my grasp Sometimes it slips away there at the last Out across the lawn First light of the dawn Calling out my name Life and death await Here they come

Your smog is rolling in Rolling right into the places where we used to live Will we ever see the sun again? No You’re crawling out from underneath a world you never knew Get back till the eventide grows dim again

There's a graveyard Just down from my house But I don't want to spend eternity Near anyone else I'm lonely but I'm doing just fine Evil creeps closer tonight Here in the suburbs Where life's complete My equity is doubling While the kids are asleep Out of sight and out of mind Evil creeps closer tonight Oblivion Is drawing near As violence manifests itself From anger and fear Your suffering is right on time I know a guy Lives down the street His every waking moment Wrapped up conspiracy A reality of his own design Evil creeps closer tonight There in a dream A frame of mind The television telling him The city's on fire And cops are getting tougher on crime Evil creeps closer tonight Oblivion Is drawing near As violence manifests itself From anger and fear Your suffering is right on time Go for a walk It's lovely now The carrion is crawling And there's vultures on the prowl Your suffering is right on time

about

Last winter I took to walking down to a nearby cemetery. A place where unkempt grass swallows gravestones. Where weeping willows drape down on a driveway that winds around and back out into the world. There’s a hidden garden in the centre—a few benches hedged in by evergreen shrubs. It’s a place to sit and think, or sometimes, to not think at all. To be untouched by news talk and notifications and unwanted conversations. I hear only the wash of distant traffic, the metallic hum of the city, and raindrops on dark, glossy leaves.

Over the past few months, I sat down in the studio to try and capture the feel of these walks—and what it feels like back in reality, 2022.

Graveyard Personalities is steeped in the sounds of underground music from the 70's, 80's, and 90's. It's they who generate fear in the world. It’s all too easy to give in to a vacant melancholy. It’s the groovy wisp-and-thwack of wood-panelled drum machines. It's televangelists, media manipulators, and cruel conservatives. It's overwhelming to think about the power bad people have over our lives. It’s the drippy wash of real spring reverb. It's data sifters and online grifters. It's grabbing hold of anything to feel alright. It's the flickering warmth of tube-driven tremolo. It's closing in on a threshold of moral depravity that the world can never recover from. It's the gleam of sun rays through November morning mist.
